SHASTA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT VERIFICATION OF QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSOCIATE COUNSEL I hereby verify I meet the following qualifications to serve as associate counsel in capital cases: 1. I am an active member of the State Bar of California; 2. I am an active trial practitioner with at least three years’ litigation experience in the field of criminal law; 3. I have prior experience either: (a) As lead counsel in at least ten felony jury trials tried to verdict, including three serious or violent felony jury trials tried to argument, verdict, or final judgment; or (b) As lead or associate counsel in at least five serious or violent felony jury trials, including at least one murder case, tried to argument, verdict, or final judgment; 4. I am familiar with the practices and procedures of the California criminal courts; 5. I am familiar with and experienced in the use of expert witnesses and evidence, including, but not limited to, psychiatric and forensic evidence; 6. I have completed within the last two years at least 15 hours of capital case defense training approved for minimum continuing legal education credit by the State Bar of California and 7. I have demonstrated the necessary proficiency, diligence, and quality of representation appropriate to capital cases.
