The purpose of orientation is to explain the mediation process, answer questions, and schedule your initial
mediation session. Mediation is an efficient, economical alternative to litigation and provides for a prompt
resolution of disputes.
The goals of custody and visitation mediation are to reduce the stress and anxiety on children whose parents are
divorcing and to give parents an opportunity to make important decisions regarding their child or children
without the ordeal of a trial. Mediation provides an opportunity for parents to focus on what is in the best
interest of their child or children regardless of the problems between the parents. It is our hope that mediation
will assist parents in agreeing on a written parenting plan which will enable them to remain good parents despite
their personal and legal differences.
