The arbitration hearing must be held on that date or within sixty (60) days of the filing of the last responsive pleading. Any continuance beyond the sixtieth day may be granted only by a judge upon written motion and a showing of a strong and compelling reason to do so. If settlement is reached prior to the hearing date, the parties must notify the person named below more than 24 hours before the hearing date so that the hearing may be cancelled. Failure to do so may result in responsibility for arbitrator's fee. See Rule 6(c) of the Rules For Court-Ordered Arbitration in North Carolina. Failure to appear for the hearing may result in an adverse award and/or sanctions. See Rule 6(l) of the Rules For Court-Ordered Arbitration in North Carolina.
