ORDER OF EXPUNGEMENT OF RECORD
This matter came on petition of the defendant, _______________________________________, to the
Honorable ________________________________, Judge of the General Sessions Court of Knox County,
Tennessee, Division _______, for an Order, pursuant to Tennessee Codes Annotated § 40-32-101, to the
agencies listed herein to expunge the public records as set forth in this Order, including those records stored

4. Any records kept by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Records Bureau which is
specifically exempted from expungement by statute with reference to the defendant’s arrest card,
arrest report and arrest folder shall be taken from the records which are open to the public and
placed under lick and key with the records which are not open to public inspection. The Knox
County Sheriff’s Department shall retrieve any records specifically described and set forth herein
relating to the defendant’s arrest including computer records, from the Knoxville Police
Department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Tennessee State Highway Patrol, and
the Federal Bureau of Investigation and said records shall be treated in a manner consistent with
this order. In order to facilitate the action required by this Order and necessary accompanying
information to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
shall provide a copy of this Order and necessary accompanying information to the Federal
Bureau of Investigation.
5. The above-listed records shall be expunged in the following manner:
a. Wherever the reference to the defendant is in a public record, that record shall be
expunged either by shredding or incineration, whichever is most convenient for the
effectuation;
b. Wherever a reference to the defendant is a sole entry on the page of a book, that page is
to be removed and destroyed by shredding or incineration, whichever is most convenient
for the effectuation of this order, and a substitute page, noting the removal of the
destroyed reference by reason of this order, is to be entered with the appropriate page
number and

Wherever a reference to the defendant is among several entries on a page, the entry
relating to the defendant is to be eradicated by means of a heavy black felt pen and a
notation made by the Clerk that this was done pursuant to an expungement order.
6. For the purpose of this expungement order, “public records” dose not include arrest histories,
investigative reports, intelligence information of law enforcement agencies, or file of district
attorneys general that are maintained as confidential records for law enforcement purposes and
are not open for inspection by members of the public.
7. Upon completion of the expungement or destruction as directed by this Court, each recipient of
this order may retain this order or a copy hereof his/her private or non-public file.
